Wow! ... What the hell happened - the last few months have been insane; more so than usual. I mean now there is a clinical explanation for nearly losing all sanity, drinking far too much cheap red wine and waking up with a dried crust around your mouth and waking up where? Everywhere it seems... no it's not just cause Missy is a raving drunken slapper... It's cause she lost her work and home in the midst of a natural disaster - a fucking 6.3 earthquake that ripped the rug beneath her feet and left her homeless, possession less and music less... Kill me now.

But wait we are in June and there is good news... Missy has the music back to bring to you and RDU 98.5FM is kinda up and running and Girlschool is back on the airwaves!

It's funny what we listen to in times of disaster... I was heartbroken as it looked as though my entire record collection was going to be demolished with that beaut old building I lived in on Poplar St or even worse that some scummy demo worker was going to get his greasy mits all over my Stooges and Roxy Music albums.

I could nt sleep... In the words of Dawn Penn 'No No No' I could nt eat ... I was in tears morning, afternoon and night. The 24 hour swimming pool and gym in Auckland saved my desperate ass and I would swim and shower all night long... Peaches says fuck the pain away... I say swim and wash the pain away.

The pool was on the fourth floor of a commercial building on Beach Road and I'd pretend I was a millionaire and like Peter Pan and the lost boys (go figure) I had imaginary champagne and caviar and a hot, fit man (or men) waiting for me in the spa... See the earthquake took nearly everything but didn't take away my wild imagination.

I was cut off from music ... Every tune Id hear on the radio or in a shop would remind me of my loss... How can I get back to where I once belonged?

I listened to a lot of blues, Big Mama Cass, Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters and Jimmy Cliff saw me through some tough times...

Electroglam New Year’s Eve Party

It’s going to be one explosive New Year’s Eve in Christchurch at Cartel on His Lordships Lane!

The Line Up…

Headlining are synth-pop act Charlie ASH. The band have just dropped “Come Back Lover," the first single from their forthcoming debut album Lover (scheduled for release in March ’09 through LOOP Recordings) and their NYE show follows a spectacular performance in the finale slot at this year's Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards – get this band while they’re hot! The current line up features the band’s two founding members bassist/keyboardist Mailee Mathews, originally from Christchurch, and singer Rosie Riggir, along with guitarist Dave Khan and drummer Ben Michelsen.

And - double trouble - Charlie ASH’s Mailee and Rosie will also morph into Pocket Money, a DJ troupe playing a combination of dance, indie and classic tunes, after the bands play. They’ll be joined by TBones, of Mad Notes fame, for a set that’s guaranteed to keep you dancing.

In support will be the duo Sexy Animals, made up of Marky ‘Cupcakes’ Banfield and Davy ‘Duvet’ Mulcahy (ex-Superette), playing a dynamic sound mix of musical rock-dance mayhem influenced by LCD Soundsystem and the Fall.

RDU’s Girlschool hostess with the mostest Missy G and Paul Numan complete the bill.

Warning: Not for the faint-hearted!

Missy G in dee house! Had a rough start to the show, rocked up with my crate of goodness to find that the station was locked! Ha didn't take it personally, ran to Security, got a key and fled like a mad crazy cow into the studio... to find there was no sound! But after some knob twiddling got a signal, and the show was on!

Kylie Minogue has cancelled two shows after walking off stage on Saturday night.
After 45 minutes of performing at her Manchester gig, she was too ill to continue.
She'd already explained to the audience at the beginning of her set that she had a cold.
But after her sister Dannii joined her on stage to perform Kids, Kylie apologised to her fans and left.
Her management later revealed: "Kylie has a respiratory tract infection."
It's hoped that with five days to recuperate, she'll be back on form for her last two shows in Manchester on Thursday and Friday.

And that's not the only time Kylie has been underperforming, she forgot the words for the second verse of I Believe In You at Wembley last week, saying, "Sorry, can you believe I was thinking about something else?"

Paula's Odd Behaviour
Paula Abdul's spokesman has had to deny reports that she was drunk during a recent interview.
A video recently appeared on YouTube showing her to be slightly incoherent.
The interview showed her slurring her words, using bizarre gestures and rolling her eyes multiple times at the camera.
This prompted speculation of alcohol or medication... but Paula's spokesman insisted the odd behaviour was a result of tiredness:
"She was sitting in a room with just a camera and a mic on, and the controllers dropped the sound twice, which is why she rolled her eyes...
"She never drinks. I have known Paula Abdul since she was 13, and I have never seen her drink ever in my life. And no, she is not on any kind of medication. She was a little tired."
Paula subsequently cancelled all media interviews on Friday.
In 2005 Paula revealed she suffered from a neurological disorder that caused chronic pain, which required a weekly injection of an anti-inflammatory drug.

Lil' Kim's huge Big Brother demands
Lil' Kim has reportedly demanded one and a half million dollars to appear on Celebrity Big Brother.
UK TV bosses are keen to get the 4ft 11in star on board, but are facing a massive fee in order to do so.
Lil' Kim, real name Kimberley Jones, has already snubbed the original offer of nine hundred thousand dollars to go on the show.
Kim, who was freed from jail in July after a one year prison sentence for perjury, also has a string of contract clauses in mind if she is to appear in the series.
These include final approval on all footage of her, a personal assistant in the house and an all-expenses paid two week holiday in London after the show.
Other stars lined up by producers include H from Steps, Dirk Benedict (aka Face from the A-Team) and footballer Jason Cundy.

Girlschool, putting the G back into Gospel and Missy G putting the G back into Groove!
That's right this week, it was a Girlschool 'Soul/Gospel' special. Missy G , with a little help from her friends; Galaxy Records and SJR (Soul Jazz Records) took a deep breathe and delved into some different territory. Girlschool spent the night showcasing soul divas from across the land. Yep, a soulgasm!

To mention a special few...

Ruth Brown otherwise dubbed as little Miss Rhythm, in her big band days. Ruthy Brown put the R&B into rhythm and blues! she was also first artist to make a hit with Atlantic records, the experts say Atlantic records was indeed the house that Ruth built! Ruth was very much a ground breaker for many and helped pave the way for soul sisters such as Aretha Franklin.

Aretha has an interesting musical career, like Laura Lee, Aretha grew up in Detriot and her father was Reverend Franklin. The highlight of Aretha's career was in 1972, when she released 'Amazing Grace', the album that won her a Grammy award for Best Soul Gospel Performance. However it wasn't all roses for Aretha, being a 'natural woman' she got a lot of flack for her appearance. Earlier on, Aretha was bumped off the Ed Sullivan show because her gown was too low cut! Aretha says "Folk hadn't at the time seen a black woman showing so much cleavage" Jerry Wexter from Atalntic Records thought she was HOT! and in 1966, Aretha was signed to Atalntic Records, and from this point her career took off.

Tina Turner is also worth mentioning, back in the day, the 60's, Tina was the hot funk mumma. Unfortunatley, for Tina this period was tainted by husband Ike Turner, her beat her black and blue on a regular basis. However, Tina turned out some hot work and rose above the odds. I am totally in awe of her rendition of the Beatles, Come Together. Tina has written a biography, 'I, Tina'. Tina went down the white trash rock road, but hey have to give her credit, her album 'Private Dancer' is the fifth top album of all time. Also, to her credit, Mick Jagger was in total awe of her and based his stage performance on Tina.

Also worth noting, there is a very cool soul documenatary screening at the moment. It is called Deep Soul, made by the makers of Dancing In the Streets. It is on Prime TV, Sunday night at 8.30pm, next week showcasing the work of Etta James, Sam Cooke and Aretha Franklin.

Kylie the 'Girl Next Door' recovers from breast cancer and her concert sells out in 6 Mins!
Wow, Kylie fans are certainly spinning around.
So, unless you were quick, don't count on seeing Kylie in concert...
The UK leg of Ms Minogue's comeback tour sold out in just SIX MINUTES.
The first two dates, 2nd and 3rd January, sold out at 9am. Another two dates - 5th and 6th January - were announced and fans crashed the computer system trying to buy tickets.
Two final dates have now been added for 8th and 9th January.
That will end Kylie's Showgirl Homecoming Tour, which was postponed last spring when Kylie was diagnosed with breast cancer.
The Oz leg recommences in Sydney on 11th November.
Kylie's live agent said: "The demand for Kylie is absolutely phenomenal.
"It will be fantastic to see Kylie back on stage again."

A New Spin For the Broken Hearted

The world's first museum dedicated to broken hearts has proved so popular that it is launching a world tour.
Museum founders Olinka Vistica and Drazen Grubisic originally opened their museum for just a few weeks in the Croatian capital Zagreb.
But word soon spread and people from across the globe came to visit the International Museum of Broken Hearts and donated new pieces.
The pair have received invitations to hold exhibitions around the world, including Paris, Istanbul and Venice and they are also planning a show in London
"People keep sending us their memories and mementos from broken relationships. The last thing we received was a picture that a woman from the UK sent to us. She said it reminds her of her broken heart," Vistica said.
Grubisic added: "Every single object on display has a full description of the relationship that was behind it and how that person has moved on. That's why we think it could be therapeutic for those with newly broken hearts.
"We have had teddy bears won in funfair rides, CDs with favourite songs, love poetry and photographs, there seems to be a lot of broken hearted people in Britain.
"My favourite is a Welsh love spoon, which obviously did not work according to the broken-hearted sender."

Girlschool spent the evening with a fine array of ladies across the rock spectrum.
First up, a couple of new albums, hot off the press, The YYY’s break up album ‘Show Your Bones’ and The Rogers Sisters ‘ latest endorsement…. ‘Invisible Deck’

The YYY’s Karen O beckons listeners once again with “Show Your Bones” an album carefully crafted from deep and provoking thoughts and painful sentiment. Well, it is a break up album after all! Raucous guitar pieces from Nick Zinner and spiteful, tongue-slashing lyrics from Mz. O, oh my, wouldn’t like to get on their bad side! I guess the cliché goes ‘still waters run deep’ and this is an apt description for their latest work. Musically, the YYY’s keep pushing the boundaries, but have not quite managed to go above and beyond their influences. I can hear echoes of Sonic Youth, Siouxie Sioux and the Banshees throughout the album. However, taking all this into consideration, “Show Your Bones” is a must have for those cold, wintry nights by the fireside with a bottle of vino and your cat!

Now, the Rogers Sisters ‘Invisible Deck’ (Kiwis if in Australia careful how you pronounce theis title) is in itself a wee hummer, with raucous sonic sounds. What most stands out for me is the six-minute track…. ‘Your littlest World’
Similar to the YYY’s, the Rodger Sisters flow with sonic indulgence, and this is to their benefit as their sonic ability comes off as genuine and authentic. Long time Girlschool listener, the Elvis butcher says ‘the Rogers Sisters sound like Kiwis’ they sure are bringing home the bacon for me.

Well, another year down and what a year it has been… Hopefully you celebrated the end of 2005 and the beginning of 2006 in style. Hmmm went to The bicycle Thief and saw House of Dolls play and meet up with some interesting folk at one of the newest bars in town… Emersons Pilsner on tap and great polenta chips PLUS music that is very sweet to the ear! If you haven’t already, try it some time.

Well, Girlschool created a HOTT list of 2005 yestayear brought some real treats to the discerning listener. Some very nice re releases and K7 Records put out some choice compilations through the DJ Kick Series. Totally digging Princess Superstar’s latest album ‘My Machine’ some pretty funny stuff presented in her (un) usual electro – hippety hop way. Princess Superstar also has a few side projects too DJs are not Rockstars and Ill Disconics… check out her website and hot pics PS gets catty… meow!
